The European Climate and Energy Modelling Forum (ECEMF) held its first General Assembly meeting on September 18, 2024, marking a significant milestone in establishing a permanent forum for energy and climate researchers and policymakers in Europe. During this inaugural meeting, attended by representatives from 12 out of 15 founding institutions, the forum established its governance structure and elected Will Usher as its first Co-Director. The assembly unanimously agreed on a two-layer governance structure consisting of 2-4 co-directors and a general assembly of all members.
The ECEMF forum, which emerged from the successful Horizon 2020 project of the same name, is now opening its doors to new members. The forum aims to create a robust evidence base for policy, reduce fragmentation of the European climate and energy modelling community, provide open tools and data, and establish a European node in an international scientific network. Research institutions interested in contributing to these objectives and participating in the forum’s activities are now welcome to apply for membership.
The next General Assembly is scheduled for February 2025 in Milan, where the forum will continue to shape its future direction and collaborative initiatives.
