Special Issue on “Modelling Climate Neutrality for the European Green Deal” in Energy (Elsevier).
Please note this year’s conference will be online.
The European Green Deal envisions a bold transformation of the economy, society and the energy system to reach climate neutrality. As part of the Energy Modelling Platform for Europe (EMP-E) conference in 2020, this Special Issue focuses on technological roadmaps, decarbonisation policies, linkage of energy and climate modelling, openness and transparency of modelling, socio-economic impacts of energy transition, consumer and citizen engagement and many others.
The EMP-E brings together scientists and policy makers working on current energy modelling and energy policy issues, looking at the current and future opportunities for change. This annual conference seeks to bridge the gap between scientific modellers and policy makers at all levels, with the support of European Commission representatives.
This Special Issue invites original research addressing relevant topics such as (but not limited to):
- Impact of COVID-19 on the energy system: what happened during the crisis? What consequences on future energy modelling?
- Climate Neutral Pathways, scenarios and storylines: Useful lessons learned and strategies for the European Green Deal
- Climate neutrality: energy modelling, weather and climate
- Circularity, use of raw material
- Socio and economic impacts of the transition
- Consumer and Citizen Engagement
- Sector integration: Decarbonisation through multi-energy carrier integration
- Smart cities, Smart grids and digitalization: Modelling insights and lessons learned
- Infrastructure for integrating models across spatial and sectoral scales to facilitate openness and transparency
- Energy modelling tools contributions to National Energy/Climate plans
- Transformation of the Energy system: centralization vs further decentralization
- Uncertainty and modelling: lessons learned and gaps
