A critical mass of Energy and Climate Models
The consortium brings together a wide range of complementary models and methodologies that encompass a variety of spatial and temporal resolutions, sectoral coverage and details in terms of technologies, representation of policy measures and consumer behaviour.
By bringing together these modelling teams in the ECEMF this high-value experience becomes available for the activities of the forum, whose aim is to expand beyond just the initial group of models represented in the consortium itself.
Of special importance is the participation of the PRIMES and GEME3 models, which have provided model-based results for a large number of climate policy impact assessments for the EU commission (in particular the recent EU Green Deal and the “Clean Planet for all” long-term strategy, the Clean Package in 2016, and the Energy Roadmap 2050).
